June 14, 2010 - 4:09 pm | 0 Comments

If you have been asking yourself how to secure 3CX PhoneSystem, read on… 3CX PhoneSystem can receive call requests from the outside to the inside (Inbound Calls), or alternatively from the inside to the outside (Outbound calls). Inbound Calls can only have an internal entity as a destination with 3CX PhoneSystem. One of 2 exceptions is if you have a forwarding rule to send the call to an external number, but this would be an intentional setting on the extension’s forwarding rules.

3CXBackup Restore Troubleshooting

March 9, 2010 - 7:56 am | 0 Comments

This article helps you recover from Backup and Restore Errors including some tips to make this operation quick and seamless. When a new major version is released, it is recommended to install the latest version.  Here is a procedure to do this. The option “Voice prompts and music on hold” should be enabled in the 3CX backup interface.  This will ensure that all your custom and system prompts together with voicemail intro-prompts are fully backed up and eventually restored.  As a 3CX Administrator, it would be good practice to delete any prompts that you are not using in your 3CX configuration, maybe customized prompt-sets which were downloaded but never used, some old IVR’s in the system etc

The main SIP INVITE Header Fields explained

March 8, 2010 - 9:15 am | 0 Comments

This article explains the main fields included in a SIP INVITE, which is sent to set-up a VoIP call. A SIP INVITE message contains typically between 4 and 6 header entries with contact information inside them. Different devices or providers use these headers in different ways and therefore, an understanding of the “normal” scope of these headers, together with a close analysis of log messages, will help to understand the cause of certain issues, and also to configure devices or providers in the 3CX Management Console so as to be identified correctly.  The image below shows a typical SIP INVITE. Request-Line-URI: The Request-Line-URI includes the destination of the call

3CX administrators need to plan ahead on how to construct their 3CX Phone System. Now it is very time consuming to create 1 extension at a time for each user, with their settings and provisioning. There is a very simple way to achieve this – creating a .csv file and importing it. You can create any number of extensions in seconds. Using the 3CX SIP Proxy Manager

September 3, 2009 - 12:21 pm | 0 Comments

You can download the stand-alone SIP Proxy Manager from here: http://www.3cx.com/downloads/3CXSIPProxyManager8.msi . IMPORTANT : Use the above link with 3CX Phone System version 8.0.9908 or higher.  Use this one for For Version 7 of the 3CX Phone System What is the 3CX SIP Proxy manager The SIP Proxy Tunnel can combine all SIP (signaling) and RTP (media) VoIP Packets from one location (typically a remote office) and deliver them to and from another location (typically the PBX Server) using a custom TCP protocol. This simple concept allows us to exploit the SIP Proxy Tunnel to overcome difficult situations, or to simplify a network scenario. The SIP Proxy Tunnel can be used for the following reasons: Resolve issues of NAT Traversal at both the remote and the PBX location Simplify Firewall configuration at both the remote and the PBX location Overcome difficulties with ISPs that block VoIP Traffic based on port numbers Allows VoIP-over-WiFi in some restricted locations, such as Hotel rooms “Fixes” Firewalls that cannot handle VoIP traffic correctly or which are very difficult or problematic to configure correctly, such as: Microsoft ISA Server SonicWall Typical Scenario The above diagram shows a typical scenario for implementing the SIP Proxy Tunnel in a remote location.

Provisioning unsupported IP phones

August 30, 2009 - 10:04 am | 0 Comments

Introduction HTTP provisioning of phone sets is useful for an administrator as it helps to automate the process of configuring the phone set for a particular extension. The administrator creates the extension as usual, and in addition specifies the MAC address of the phone. 3CX includes ready phone provisioning templates for the most popular IP Phones in the market. However, in some cases companies wish to use other IP Phones and still use phone provisioning. In these cases you can create your own phone provisioning templates. This article explains how Once the extension is created, a configuration for the specified phone set is created using the MAC address as the file name in the following directory: For Windows XP / 2003: %allusersprofile%application data3cxdatahttpinterfaceprovisioning For Windows Vista / 2008: %allusersprofile%3cxdatahttpinterfaceprovisioning The phone is then configured to download the configuration from this directory via the 3CX HTTP server on next start-up
