Router Configuration for 3CX PhoneSystem

July 23, 2010 - 10:17 am | 0 Comments

Correct Router Configuration is a key element in ensuring correct communications between 3CX PhoneSystem and external entities such as external extensions, VoIP Provider services, and other Bridged PBXs. NAT and/or PAT When a network host A sends a request to another network host B, it will be expecting a reply to the request. When both network hosts reside on a Public IP Address, the exchange is direct, and simple enough. If one of the network hosts resides on a Private IP Address, however, things start to be come more complex, because the network environment is a NAT/PAT environment. If network host A is in a NAT/PAT environment, when it sends a request to network host B, it will build its request using the only IP Address it knows – its private IP Address

How to send emails 3CX generated emails via SSL or TLS

December 10, 2009 - 2:11 pm | 0 Comments

When 3CX PhoneSystem needs to deliver email notifications, the SMTP mechanisms allowed can either be unauthenticated or authenticated using clear text. Some SMTP servers may be configured to allow only TLS or SSL exchange. You can achieve this using the following procedure: On the 3CX machine you will need to install the SMTP Server available as part of the IIS installation procedure. This is done from the Control Panel > Add/Remove Program > Windows Components. Under the ‘Internet Information Services’ enable the ‘Simple Mail Transfer Protocol’ checkbox.

Fax over VoIP Providers

December 1, 2009 - 1:17 pm | 0 Comments

Receiving faxes from VoIP Providers Incoming faxes from VoIP Providers can be quite tricky when compared to receiving of faxes from PSTN, ISDN VoIP Gateways. The main reason for this is NAT. Therefore some tweaks need to be made to the 3CX Fax Service Configuration Files. IMPORTANT: VoIP Provider testing of the 3CX Fax Server was performed in March 2010 and this document was updated with the new information. The NAT changes described in this document apply for the following VoIP Providers: Inphonex, and Actiopl Some VoIP Providers do not need this setting but others will not work without it.  The best thing to do is to leave the configuration unchanged and try with the default configuration files as shipped by 3CX

Direct SIP Explained

November 3, 2009 - 5:53 am | 0 Comments

How does direct SIP work? The way direct SIP calls are initiated is very similar to the way sending an email works. A caller can call a callee from either a stand alone SIP phone which is not registered to any SIP server,  to a VoIP provider, or from a SIP phone registered to an IP PBX, which supports direct SIP. If a user calls “robert@voipproducts.org” from a stand alone SIP phone, the caller’s soft phone makes appropriate DNS queries to resolve the address of the SIP server responsible for SIP based VoIP calls to voipproducts.org. Once the SIP server’s IP Address is resolved, the caller’s soft phone initiates a SIP session with the SIP server responsible for the domain voipproducts.org.

Using the 3CX SIP Proxy Manager

September 3, 2009 - 12:21 pm | 0 Comments

You can download the stand-alone SIP Proxy Manager from here: http://www.3cx.com/downloads/3CXSIPProxyManager8.msi . IMPORTANT : Use the above link with 3CX Phone System version 8.0.9908 or higher.  Use this one for For Version 7 of the 3CX Phone System What is the 3CX SIP Proxy manager The SIP Proxy Tunnel can combine all SIP (signaling) and RTP (media) VoIP Packets from one location (typically a remote office) and deliver them to and from another location (typically the PBX Server) using a custom TCP protocol. This simple concept allows us to exploit the SIP Proxy Tunnel to overcome difficult situations, or to simplify a network scenario. The SIP Proxy Tunnel can be used for the following reasons: Resolve issues of NAT Traversal at both the remote and the PBX location Simplify Firewall configuration at both the remote and the PBX location Overcome difficulties with ISPs that block VoIP Traffic based on port numbers Allows VoIP-over-WiFi in some restricted locations, such as Hotel rooms “Fixes” Firewalls that cannot handle VoIP traffic correctly or which are very difficult or problematic to configure correctly, such as: Microsoft ISA Server SonicWall Typical Scenario The above diagram shows a typical scenario for implementing the SIP Proxy Tunnel in a remote location.
